Contractor rate calculator

Contractor Rate Calculator Australia – Check Your All-In Rate

Put in the all-in hourly or daily rate on your contract and we show the split the way payroll actually runs it: the standard 1.75% PayMe payroll fee comes off the top, then the calculator splits what remains into your wage plus the 12% Super Guarantee that sits on top of it.

Your contract rate

Enter the all-in rate on your contract — the figure that includes super and the PayMe fee.

Inclusive of superannuation and the PayMe fee.

Both rates are fixed. The fee comes out of the all-in rate first, then super is calculated on what is left.

Estimates only. The PayMe fee is a flat 1.75% of the payment received from your recruitment company and superannuation is 12% of your taxable wage. Figures exclude PAYG withholding, HELP/STSL and any allowances, and are not financial advice.

How our contractor rate calculator works

Contract roles in Australia are usually quoted as an all-in rate — one hourly or daily figure that has to cover your wage, your superannuation and the cost of being paid. Enter that figure and the calculator does the same split payroll does.

The standard PayMe payroll fee comes off the top first. What is left is the amount available to package, and it is divided into a taxable wage plus the 12% superannuation guarantee that sits on top of that wage. You see each of those lines separately, per hour or per day, so nothing is buried in a single number.

From there, choose whether you are paid hourly or daily, enter the hours or days you expect in a normal pay, and pick your pay cycle. The calculator projects your taxable gross and superannuation weekly, fortnightly or monthly, and as an annual figure based on the number of pays in a year.

It is built for Australian contractors, including contractors placed through recruitment companies, who want to sanity-check a rate before signing or compare two offers quoted on different bases. The figures are estimates and stop short of tax — they show what your rate is made of, not what lands in your account after PAYG withholding.

Contractor Rate Calculator FAQs

What is an all-in contractor rate?

An all-in contractor rate is the single hourly or daily figure in your contract that represents the total amount available for that hour or day. This is the GST-exclusive (ex GST) rate. It is quoted before items such as payroll fees and superannuation are separated out, so it is not the same as the wage you are taxed on.

Does my contractor rate include superannuation?

Where a contract is quoted as an all-in rate, superannuation is generally included within that amount rather than added on top. The calculator shows the split so you can see how much of the rate is your taxable wage and how much is super. If your contract says the rate is plus super, super sits outside the figure instead.

How is the PayMe payroll fee calculated?

PayMe's standard payroll fee is 1.75% of the payment received from your recruitment company. Discounted arrangements may apply through some recruitment companies we work with, so the fee applied to your placement can be lower than the standard rate.

How is super calculated from my contractor rate?

Once the PayMe fee is separated, the remaining amount is used to work out your taxable wage and the superannuation payable on it. The calculator currently applies the 12% Australian superannuation guarantee rate, so the remaining amount is treated as 112 parts: 100 parts wage and 12 parts super.

Why is my taxable hourly rate lower than my contract rate?

Because the all-in contract rate can include superannuation and payroll costs. Those amounts are real money paid on your behalf, but they are not wages, so the taxable wage component is always lower than the headline all-in rate.

Can I calculate a contractor day rate?

Yes. Switch the rate basis to daily, enter your all-in day rate and the number of days you expect in a pay, and the calculator returns the same fee, wage and super split per day. You can then compare the result across different pay periods.

Does this calculator show my take-home pay after tax?

No. This calculator focuses on converting your all-in rate into a taxable wage, superannuation and the PayMe fee. PAYG withholding, HELP/STSL and salary packaging are handled in our salary packaging calculator.

Can I compare weekly, fortnightly and monthly contractor pay?

Yes. Choose weekly, fortnightly or monthly and the calculator projects your taxable gross and superannuation for that pay cycle, along with an annual figure based on the number of pays in a year.

Is this calculator for Australian contractors?

It is designed primarily for Australian contractors paid through PayMe, including contractors placed by recruitment companies. It uses Australian payroll conventions such as the superannuation guarantee rate and standard Australian pay cycles.

Is the calculation an exact payslip?

No — it is an estimate. Individual payroll circumstances such as allowances, leave, penalty rates, deductions, timesheet approvals and any agreed fee arrangement can affect the amounts on your actual payslip.
